The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Best budget Robot vacuum vacuums nab pet hair, lint, and dust from floors before it can settle. They also can avoid obstacles like furniture that is unstable and stairs.

Most robotic vacs require some maintenance, such as emptying (and occasionally, rinsing) the bin, and wiping cameras and sensors. They also require to be connected. A lot of them have apps for smartphones for scheduling, setting up settings and more.

iRobot Roomba 960

The iRobot Roomba 980 is the most recent in the line of top-of-the-line robotic vacuum cleaners that are an essential part of any modern household. This model comes with a HEPA filter that can assist those who suffer from allergies. It also has an extremely powerful battery that can be cleaned for up to two hours and returns to its dock automatically once the bin is full.

It also comes with a feature called smart mapping, which makes use of multiple sensors to help it suss out the areas in your home that require attention and then create a clean path around them. This technology is very effective in navigating around toys that have been left on the floor, or furniture legs sticking out underneath objects. It also has a camera that snaps the Roomba back to the real world when it starts to drift from its actual location.

iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers underneath the Roomba’s bottom, which don’t have bristles and therefore tend to resist tangles better than the previous models. They’re also a bit taller than older rollers, and will fit better under beds and couches with low sides and are designed to let this model move more easily across different floor kinds.

What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other models with a higher-end price tag Its main feature is the incorporation of the latest dirt detection feature that uses cameras to identify particles of dirt embedded. This is a great improvement over the previous model, which relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around the room and clean at least three times from different angles.

In our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. It scored very well on carpets with a low pile, and on mid-pile. It did a good job getting rid of pet hair, but had a difficult time with the thick and long pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots in our list, despite these minor limitations. It’s also not as expensive as top-of-the-line models. It has many of the features we would expect from a flagship model, but doesn’t come with all the fancy apps or smart home integrations you’ll see in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and start working immediately. After taking the yellow bin insert and battery pull tab from its undercarriage you simply plug it into an outlet on the wall or to its Home Base docking stations, press the “Clean button” and let it do its job. It will return to its dock when the battery runs out or it’s stuffed with debris, and it also has indicators on the top to indicate when its bin is full or it requires recharging or its Wi-Fi signal has gone out.
